2008 Family Helper of the Year

Kristin Smith
Kristin Smith was born and raised in Orange, Massachusetts. Beginning at a young age she would get paid by family members to entertain her younger cousins at family functions. She always loved caring for children, and by the time she was twelve years old she was a pro at changing diapers and bottle feeding babies. Throughout her teen years she continued to babysit and also worked as a children’s ski instructor at Berkshire East. After the summer she worked as a mother’s helper (age 16) in East Hampton Long Island, she knew she was destined to become a nanny!
Two weeks after Kristin graduated from high school she moved to Briarcliff Manor, NY to be a live-in nanny. For the past seven years, since moving to NY, Kristin has continued to work as a nanny. She also has a daughter of her own now.
Kristin has wonderful references from the many families she has worked for over the years. Her current employer describes Kristin as incredibly caring, conscientious and someone who provides outstanding care to the family’s three children. Kristin is creative and artistic, and she has used her skills to assist the children in creating exciting art projects and putting on family plays.
Kristin’s employer suffered from a serious illness in 2008 and Kristin demonstrated compassion and commitment to the family throughout this difficult period. Kristin was always willing to accommodate requests, change her work schedule, and even rearrange her own vacation to accommodate her employer.
Kristin is a licensed EMT and plans to go to nursing school in the future. She enjoys motherhood, outdoor activities, and arts and crafts.
