Dobbs Ferry, New York (April 18, 2010)-When local nanny placement agency owner and co-president of the International Nanny Association Susan Tokayer heard Alyson Myatt’s story, she sprang into action to help.
“Every day I work with nannies like Alyson who commit to doing all they can to protect the children in their care. Alyson followed through on that commitment in a big way” said Tokayer, president of Family Helpers, a Dobbs Ferry based domestic placement agency.
On March 23 Alyson Myatt, 22, suffered third-degree burns on both feet and second- and third-degree burns to her hand when she ran through 400-degree flames to save the boy in her care, Aden Hawes age 5.
“When I heard her story on the news, I felt compelled to do something to help her” said Tokayer, who contacted nannies she has placed asking for donations to send to Alyson. “Since Alyson, like many nannies, didn’t have health insurance, I knew her act of heroism had the potential to be an unbearable financial burden to her.”
Cindy Augustine, a Westchester County, NY based nanny who currently cares for 3 children ages 4, 7 and 9 donated a gift set for Alyson, toys to send to Aden, and tools to send to his dad. “I wanted to help Alyson, and the family she works with because she is a hero and deserves any help we can give her” said Augustine.“ A good nanny will do anything to help or save the life of a child, even at the risk of our own lives, and she is an excellent example of a good nanny. She deserves to be honored.”
Family Helpers will be sending a monetary donation to Alyson in care of the trust fund that has been established for her (Alyson C Myatt Trust Fund – C/O Chase Bank – 9601 Lantern Road – Fishers, Indiana 46037).
