When a nanny uses her own personal vehicle to transport the children in her care to and from school, activities or appointments, the IRS mileage reimbursement rate is typically used to calculate how much the nanny should be reimbursed.
This reimbursement rate has increased one cent in 2011 from $0.50 to $0.51 per mile.
The IRS mileage reimbursement rate is intended to cover both direct costs (gasoline for example) and indirect costs, including wear and tear, depreciation and insurance costs of the nanny’s vehicle.
Families and nannies are reminded to make sure that if the nanny uses her personal vehicle to transport the children, she has a business use rider and appropriate coverage on her automobile insurance policy.
